Interestingly, MMTV-v-H-Ras;Prdx1-/- mice develop mammary tumors at a higher frequency compared to MMTV-v-H-Ras;Prdx1+/+ mice, possibly in association with increased PTEN oxidation and resultant PI3K/Akt/mTOR axis activation, as mammary epithelial cells isolated from MMTV-v-H-Ras; Prdx1-/- mice demonstrate higher levels of oxidized PTEN compared to their wild-type counterparts ( Cao et al., 2009). Here, PTEN is linked to breast cancer.
