We considered two metabolic steady states as representatives of two different glycolytic rates, corresponding to high or low PI3K/Akt/mTOR activity: the first, representing a cancer cell line where PI3K/Akt/mTOR promotes a high-rate of glucose metabolism (Figures 2 and 3, condition H); the second characterized by a lower glycolytic rate due to a reduced PI3K/Akt/mTOR signal (Figure 3, condition L). The gene discussed is MTOR; the disease is cancer.
