A similar study (Freedman et al., 2010) using Fluidigm to measure transcript abundance in 1,846 Framingham study participants showed inflammatory transcripts, notably TLR receptors and the NFκB pathway, to be associated with obesity and BMI, particularly when derived from platelets rather than leukocytes. Here, NFKB1 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
