In further analyses of the 16,192 SNPs all 15,989 individuals were included to increase statistical power and SNPs for follow-up in stage 3 were prioritised from examinations of three binary traits (type 2 diabetes, obesity and hypertension) and nine quantifiable traits (BMI, waist circumference, systolic and diastolic BP, fasting levels of plasma glucose and serum insulin, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and triacylglycerol). Here, INS is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
