In further analyses of the 16,192 SNPs all 15,989 individuals were included to increase statistical power and SNPs for follow-up in stage 3 were prioritised from examinations of three binary traits (type 2 diabetes, obesity and hypertension) and nine quantifiable traits (BMI, waist circumference, systolic and diastolic BP, fasting levels of plasma glucose and serum insulin, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and triacylglycerol). The gene discussed is INS; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
