In the present study, the gene coding for TPx-2, which is expressed in the mitochondrion of the rodent malaria parasite P. berghei (Additional file 1: Figure S1), was disrupted and phenotypes of the disruptant were observed in experimental infections in mice and mosquitoes in order to investigate unidentified cellular function of the Prx family in malaria parasites. The gene discussed is PRX; the disease is malaria.
