The cytoplasm Twist2 at tumor center and the lymph metastases is likely to contribute to the maintenance of epithelial cancer characteristics with E-cadherin expression in a noninvasive state, while the nuclear Twist2 activates EMT in the cancer invasion front, thereby deprive neoplastic epithelial cells with E-cadherin to facilitate metastasis (Figure 2).
