LGALS3 and infection: The first step in the regulation of the ECM interactome by T. cruzi during the initial infection process involves triggering gp83 receptors in the cell via activation of ERK1/2 by PLC-cleaved gp83 which results in the up-regulation of LAMC1 and activation of the LAMC1 sub-network which directly cross-talks with the LGALS3 sub-network to recruit parasites and enhance cellular infection on one side.
