Recent research suggests that Semen Hoveniae is able to increase the levels of hepatic ADH and ALDH in alcohol-induced acute liver injury mice [10, 24], while Radix Puerariae can normalize the activities of hepatic antioxidative enzymes in rodent alcoholic intoxication models [24, 25], and Fructus Schisandrae displays potent hepatoprotective effect in CCl4-induced rat hepatic injury [23, 26]. This evidence concerns the gene LDHA and alcohol dependence.
