In terms of the relationship between CD133 and thyroid cancer, Zito et al. found that two human ATC cell lines, ARO and KAT-4, contain subpopulations of CD133+ cells which exhibit stem cell-like features such as rapid proliferation, the ability of self renewal and to form colonies, and increased resistance to chemotherapy-induced apoptosis in vitro [16]. This evidence concerns the gene PROM1 and thyroid gland carcinoma.
