Notably, some of the genes which were found to be deregulated included enzymes involved in FA homeostasis such as DGAT2 (responsible for FA esterification to TGs) and PNPLA3 (adiponutrin), recently identified as a key determinant for pathogenesis and progression of alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease [34], [35]. This evidence concerns the gene DGAT2 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
