Although rare variants of other genes such as RNASEL (Carpten et al. 2002), MSR1 (Xu et al. 2002), and ELAC2 (Tavtigian et al. 2001) have been previously identified in prostate cancer families and proposed as prostate cancer susceptibility alleles, follow-up studies have not supported their candidacy. This evidence concerns the gene MSR1 and prostate cancer.
