GSTM1 and chronic kidney disease: Recently, several large cohort studies investigating renal anemia therapy have highlighted the biologically plausible, but erroneous assumption that the normalization of hemoglobin (Hb) iron should attenuate cardiovascular disease risks and lead to a decline in the mortality rate of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), both before and after the initiation of maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) treatment [1–4].
