Because previous studies suggested that p53 could contribute to the development of normal-tension glaucoma [4], [32], we first evaluated the association of the p53 codon 72 polymorphism in the MEEI glaucoma cases with normal tension glaucoma (NTG) defined as IOP less than 22 at time of diagnosis, as well as in the MEEI POAG patients with IOPs at diagnosis equal to or greater than 22 (HT-POAG). This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and open-angle glaucoma.
