Substantiating this theory, a recently published paper on the therapeutic effect of aspirin in TNBS-induced colitis [51] demonstrated that NO-releasing aspirin, in contrast to regular aspirin, COX-1 inhibitors and SC-560, accelerated colonic healing characterized by a down-regulation of COX-2, iNOS, IL-1β, and TNF-α mRNAs. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and colitis.
