ALB and diabetes mellitus: Renal disease is a common and often severe complication of diabetes, with the majority of patients with 18 years’ duration showing signs of diabetic renal involvement.57 In general, about one in three patients with type 1 or 2 diabetes develops ESRD which proceeds to DN, the principal cause of significant morbidity and mortality in diabetes.8 The onset of DN is associated with a progressive rate of decline in renal function, urinary albumin excretion and glomerular filtration rate.
