Evaluation of the function of this miRNA in long-term epilepsy associated glioneuronal tumors and in malformations of cortical development (containing balloon cells with a stem cell phenotype), is particularly interesting in view of the recently described function of miR-146a in modulating neural stem cell proliferation and differentiation through regulation of the key neural stem cell factor Notch1 [47]. Here, NOTCH1 is linked to epilepsy.
