Indeed, it has been shown that VEGF demonstrates neuroprotection, neurogenesis, and angiogenesis in the ischemic brain: VEGF promotes the formation of new cerebral blood vessels in response to cerebral ischemia, reduces cerebral infarct volume and edema, reduces neurologic deficits and improves neurologic recovery outcomes, and influences cerebral neurogenesis in the adult brain [29–32].
