Despite the fact that pro-angiogenic molecules such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) have several effects on neurons (for review, Mackenzie and Ruhrberg, 2012) they can ameliorate memory via angiogenesis in transgenic model of Alzheimer Disease (Wang et al., 2011). The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
