Western analysis of the tumor lysates indicated that, similar to prostate cancer cells in vitro, treatment with simvastatin significantly impaired phosphorylation of Bad (p<0.01), decreased protein levels of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL (p<0.01 and p<0.001, respectively), increased release of cytochrome C from the mitochondria to cytosol (p<0.05 ) as well as increased protein expressions of BimL/BimS, cleaved caspase 9 and cleaved caspase 3 (p<0.05), compared to saline treated controls (Figures 4A and B).
