Recently, it was demonstrated that P-cadherin overexpression, in human breast cancer cells with wild-type E-cadherin, induces the secretion of matrix metalloproteases, specifically MMP-1 and MMP-2 and promotes cell invasion, motility, and migration, due to a mechanism involving alterations in the actin cytoskeleton and signalling through small GTPase-binding proteins [94]. The gene discussed is CDH1; the disease is breast cancer.
