In one study, stool from “healthy” (n = 37), adenomas (n = 52), and CRC (n = 60) was investigated for methylation of methylguanine DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) and human mut I homolog-1 (hMLH-1). Methylation was detected in fecal samples from 51.7% and 30.0% of those with CRC and 36% and 11% of those with adenomas. The gene discussed is MLH1; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
