In our study, genes in regulation of cell cycle, actin cytoskeleton regulation, TGF-β, focal adhesion, and MAPK pathways, rather than type I interferon signature were found to be differentially expressed in the BMMSCs from SLE patients, suggesting the distinct role of bone marrow, especially the stromal cells in regulating the immune response. The gene discussed is TGFB1; the disease is systemic lupus erythematosus.
