Given that loss of the hepatic IL-6 receptor expression is sufficient to cause glucose intolerance and that the IL-11 co-receptor is also expressed in this organ, we hypothesize that differential activation of gp130 signaling in the liver by IL-6 and IL-11 contributes to the enhanced glucose tolerance we observe in response to IL-6 but not IL-11 [47]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and Glucose intolerance.
