In addition to the well characterized involvement of proinflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukins (ILs) in endothelial cells [5], and vascular smooth muscle cells [5,6] in cardiovascular remodeling during disease conditions, recent focus has shifted to the role of brain inflammation in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases [2,4,7,8]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is brain inflammatory disease.
