This study demonstrates that eGFR is not a reliable predictor of the concentration of most of the evaluated LMWP’s, although several of them such as IL-6 [23]–[26], TNF-α [27], [28] and FGF-23 [31]–[33], [49] have been associated with mortality or with intermediate endpoints, such as vascular dysfunction or progression to end stage renal disease (ESRD) in CKD- or hemodialysis patients.
