Several experimental studies have shown that the hypoxia-induced miR-210 increases the expression of hypoxia-induced downstream targets VEGF and CAIX (carbonic anhydrase 9) in pancreatic cancer cells by a HIF-1α-dependent mechanism [19]; [36], suggesting a regulatory role in tumor angiogenesis [16]–[18]; [43]–[45]. This evidence concerns the gene CA9 and familial pancreatic carcinoma.
