The BBB/BSCB is damaged in ALS subjects as shown through analysis of albumin and other serum-derived proteins in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and measurements of albumin CSF/serum quotients [2, 3, 10, 29, 40, 45, 53, 57], as well as postmortem pathologic analyses of spinal cord or motor cortex tissue [17, 20, 21, 31, 32, 58]. This evidence concerns the gene ALB and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
