All BMI variations were associated with IL-6 and VEGF activation but only in the group with overweight and obesity we found correlations between fat mass and serum concentrations of adiponectin and VEGF, which may point to a more active stimulation of angiogenesis and vasculature and inhibition of a key adipocytokine. The gene discussed is ADIPOQ; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
