The RSV G protein is a well-documented immunomodulatory glycoprotein that is produced as both a membrane-bound and a soluble form (Roberts et al., 1994) and is implicated in the induction of substance P, a neurokinin that mediates inflammation and enhanced pulmonary disease in RSV-infected BALB/c mice (Tripp et al., 2000b).
