PPAR-γ agonism exerted mainly by telmisartan (Haraguchi et al. 2010; Mogi et al. 2008; Tsukuda et al. 2009) but to a different extent also by all other sartans including losartan, irbesartan and candesartan (Min et al. 2012; Schupp et al. 2004) was found to be responsible for the memory improvements after repeated cerebral ischemia in rats (Haraguchi et al. 2010) and β-amyloid injection (Tsukuda et al. 2009) or type 2 diabetes mellitus in mice (Min et al. 2012).
