Among the immunocytochemistry (ICC) or immunohistochemistry (IHC) markers most employed to distinguish between benign and malignant lesions of the thyroid are: cytokeratin-19 (CK-19: a keratin member family responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells), galectin-3 (Gal-3: involved in the process of cell migration, adherence and apoptosis) and Hector Battifora mesothelial-1 (HBME-1: an unelucidated membrane antigen that exists in the microvilli of the mesothelioma cells and also in follicular thyroid tumor cells) or their associations[10]. Here, KRT19 is linked to thyroid tumor.
