Propylthiouracil (PTU) is a thioamide drug used to treat hyperthyroidism by decreasing the amount of thyroid hormone produced by the thyroid gland [16], and it also inhibited the enzyme 5′-deiodinase, which converts thyroxine (T4) to the active form triiodothyronine (T3) [17]. The gene discussed is TG; the disease is hyperthyroidism.
