PTH and chronic kidney disease: As elevated serum parathyroid hormone (PTH), phosphorus and calcium have all been linked with increased morbidity and mortality in dialysis (CKD stage 5D) patients [3-7], the National Kidney Foundation’s Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (NKF-K/DOQITM [KDOQITM) in 2003 recommended stringent targets for intact PTH (iPTH; 150–300 pg/mL), calcium (8.4–9.5 mg/dL) and phosphorus (3.5–5.5 mg/dL) for this population of patients [8].
