In adults with DS, Dyrk1a overexpression appears related to overexpression of the 3R isoform transcript of microtubule-associated protein tau (Mapt), which is predominant in neurofibrillary tangles, suggesting a new role for Dyrk1a in neuronal degeneration [61, 63–65]. The gene discussed is DYRK1A; the disease is Dravet syndrome.
