Since the GWAS discovery of this novel obesity locus, the association of the variants within NEGR1 loci has been replicated in various genotyping studies for body mass, BMI and other obesity-related traits such as birth weight, subcutaneous fat mass and infancy weight gain [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11]. The gene discussed is NEGR1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
