SGCG and neoplasm: The CD44 proteins belong to a family of type I transmembrane glycoproteins that are encoded by a single, highly conserved gene located on the short arm of chromosome 11 in humans; two molecular sizes have been identified: low Mr CD44 (80–90 x 103) is expressed in lymphoid tissue and high Mr CD44 (130–160 x 103) is expressed in tumor cells and keratinocytes [10].
