In the last decade, the neuroprotective properties of proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR gamma) agonists have received increasing attention and have been examined in a number of preclinical models of neurodegenerative conditions, including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, cerebral ischemia, ALS, and spinal cord injury. This evidence concerns the gene PPARG and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
