Upon infection of GFP-WIPI-1 U2OS cells with pathogenic Staphylococci, here S. aureus HG001, in nutrient-rich medium (DMEM/FCS), we identified canonical, autophagosomal GFP-WIPI-1 membranes (Figures 2(a) and 2(b)), and new GFP-WIPI-1 autophagosome-like vesicles that were larger in diameter with decreased fluorescence intensity (Figure 2(c)) when compared to the canonical GFP-WIPI-1 puncta.
