In some cases this strategy may fail, as shown by Fuereder et al. [4] who demonstrated that the in vivo sensitivity of gastric cancer xenografts to BEZ235, a dual phosphoinositidine 3-kinase (PI3K)/mTOR inhibitor, does not correlate with in vitro antiproliferative activity or in vivo PI3K/mTOR target inhibition by BEZ235. Here, MTOR is linked to gastric cancer.
