Recently in a genome-wide association study (GWAS), a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs4236601 near the caveolin 1 (CAV1) and caveolin 2 (CAV2) genes was identified to be strongly associated with POAG in the Icelandic population, and the association was replicated in multiple study populations including Chinese [14]. This evidence concerns the gene CAV1 and open-angle glaucoma.
