Wark et al and Contoli et al demonstrated that epithelium of asthma subjects was defective in the production of interferon-β (IFN-β) and IFN-λ in response to rhinovirus [50], [51]; we may assume that the same mechanisms are valid in nasal polyps, characterized by a Th2 inflammation similar as asthma. The gene discussed is IFNB1; the disease is nasal cavity polyp.
