Supporting a role of LRRK2 in Crohn’s disease, LRRK2 knock-out macrophages display increased production of the inflammatory cytokines IL-12 and IL-6 when stimulated with the yeast cell wall glucan component, zymosan, rendering these mice more susceptible to inflammatory bowel disease in a mouse model [16]. The gene discussed is LRRK2; the disease is inflammatory bowel disease.
