Although it has been previously recognised by Glass et al [3] that NF-κB expression is upregulated in the substantia nigra, basal forebrain, brain stem and spinal cord playing a role in inflammation in PD, AD and ALS respectively, this experiment shows that it can also be activated to greater and lesser extents within other neural structures concurrently by inducing an inflammatory process. The gene discussed is NFKB1; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
