CD4 and Thrombocytopenia: Approximately two-thirds of patients in our study had a CD4 count over 200 cells/μL. Although this seems contrary to previous studies that showed an increased incidence and severity of thrombocytopenia with lower CD4 counts [4–6], in our study, the higher number of patients with CD4 count greater than 200 cells/μL is most likely a reflection of the composition of the baseline population in the HAART era.
