It is also known that blocking CYP2E1, which inhibits the formation of retinoic acid metabolites, protects against the development of alcoholic liver disease in animal models [75,76], though it is important to remember that CYP2E1 has an important role in alcohol metabolism and its inhibition may have other effects beyond normalizing retinoid metabolism.
