Our earlier experiments demonstrated that hepcidin expression is increased during multiple forms of intestinal inflammation in mice, including Salmonella enterocolitis, the initial phase of DSS colitis, piroxicam/IL-10 knockout colitis and T cell transfer colitis, with BMPs 2, 4 and 6 playing a positive regulatory role in this process [8], [9]. The gene discussed is HAMP; the disease is colitis.
