Overexpression of specific VEGF isoforms results in different vascular patterning phenotypes: VEGF120 transgenics show several vascular patterning defects in retinopathy of prematurity; VEGF164–188 transgenics show features consistent with persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV) [37,38]. This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and retinopathy of prematurity.
