Two of the negative (for MTC) scans had findings due to recurrence of pheochromocytoma in two MEN IIA patients (patients no. 6 and 34); two further scans (one negative and one positive for MTC) of one patient had findings attributed to adrenal cortical hyperplasia due to Cushing's syndrome caused by ectopic ACTH production (patient no. 5). The gene discussed is POMC; the disease is hereditary pheochromocytoma-paraganglioma.
