Downregulation of Pdcd4 by miR-21 has been associated with attenuation of cytotoxic effects of oxidative stress and ischemia-reperfusion in cardiomyocytes [95, 96], decreasing the proinflammatory effects of TLR4 signaling [94], and also preventing type 1 diabetes in rodents [49]. This evidence concerns the gene PDCD4 and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
