In some of our experiments, acute kidney injury was induced by albumin-overload nephropathy, in which PPARα protected proximal tubular cells from acute toxicity induced by fatty acids bound to albumin [1]; furthermore, pretreatment with low-dose fibrates protected against the fatty-acid-induced renal tubule toxicity by counteracting PPARα deterioration [2]. The gene discussed is PPARA; the disease is Nephropathy.
